BIDANI launches NutriLive school-on-the-air

The Barangay Integrated Development Approach for Nutrition Improvement Network Program (BIDANI) of the Institute of Human Nutrition and Food (IHNF), UPLB College of Human Ecology (CHE) has launched its online nutrition school-on-the-air program BIDANI NutriLive last 16 November 2020 via Facebook Live. 

The program, the product of a partnership between BIDANI and the College of Development Communication’s (CDC) Radyo DZLB 1116 AM Ang Tinig ng Kaunlaran aims to serve as the BIDANI Network Program’s platform to conduct online broadcast-based nutrition education and information dissemination.

As it is a school-on-the-air program, enrollees for the first season of BIDANI NutriLive enrollees come from the catchment municipalities and barangays of UPLB BIDANI, namely the municipalities of Nagcarlan and Calauan in Laguna. There are three pilot barangays from Nagcarlan, Laguna for this new endeavor.

Some of the segments that listeners and viewers can look forward to in the program include Nutri Balita for news concerning nutrition, development, and other relevant information; Nutri-Talakayan where invited subject matter specialists from BIDANI, IHNF, and other partner institutions discuss relevant nutrition topics; and Nutri Quiz where the audience and NutriLive enrollees could participate to check whether they have learned something from Nutri Talakayan.

The program is hosted by Mr. Guien Eidrefson Garma, UPLB BIDANI’s development communication operations coordinator.

First season topics revealed

Subject Matter Specialists Ms. Ma Charina Maneja and Ms. Belinda Lalap, both Research and Extension personnel of BIDANI, presented the different modules and other Subject Matter Specialists that will join in the upcoming episodes of NutriLive. Professors from the Institute of Human Nutrition and Food, aProf. Joyce Parco and aProf. Aiza Kris Bernardo, will join the BIDANI subject matter specialists in discussing topics in Nutri Talakayan.

According to Ms. Maneja, for the first half of NutriLive, there are three modules, namely: Healthy Diets, or the appropriate food and diet especially during the COVID-19 pandemic; Micronutrient Deficiencies, which is related to healthy diets; and Pinggang Pinoy, which was developed by the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) as visual guide for the Filipinos.

Ms. Lalap shared that on the second half of NutriLive, there will also be three modules : Tips in Buying and Preparing Healthy Foods, so that viewers and enrollees will learn how to prepare affordable and nutritious food; Infant and Young Child Feeding, where the importance and benefits of breastfeeding will be discussed; and the KALINGA Mix, including its benefits and recipes that can be used to prepare food for the family.

Episodes of NutriLive will run from 16 November to 16 December 2020 and can be seen and heard via the Facebook pages of DZLB 1116 AM Ang Tinig ng Kaunlaran and the BIDANI Network Program every Monday and Wednesday, at 9am.
