New, re-elected, and re-appointed barangay officials in the barangay local government units (BLGUs) of Rizal, Laguna were oriented and trained about the BIDANI strategy and the use of the Barangay Management Information System (BMIS) through a series of orientation meetings and trainings throughout the month of October 2018.
Last 8 and 15 October, orientation meetings for barangay captains, kagawads, secretaries, and treasurers were held at the Rizal Elementary School. There, UPLB BIDANI staff discussed to the officials the importance of addressing malnutrition in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and in accordance to the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022.
Gathering data through the use of BMIS questionnaire was also discussed to the participants. Details of the PPAN 2017-2022, particularly on nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive programs were also tackled.They were also given a preview of the Participative Nutrition Enhancement Approach (PNEA).
Meanwhile, on 19 October, barangay secretaries and Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) were trained on the use of the BMIS software. The training focused on updating the BMIS software, data validation, and producing the various reports and tables BMIS is able to make. Merging of the BMIS and BNS e-OPT tool was also discussed and demonstrated.
Rizal, Laguna is one of the catchment municipalities of UPLB BIDANI. The orientation and training series was held upon the request of Rizal’s Office of the Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator (MPDC).
