Technical backstopping, BMIS seminar held in VSU

Two University Research Associates of the BIDANI Network Program, University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB BIDANI) provided technical backstopping and served as resource persons in a training on the Barangay Management Information System (BMIS) in Visayas State University, Baybay, Leyte.

Charina Maneja, BMIS Coordinator, and Pamela Gonzales, Network SUCs Coordinator, visited VSU on October 25-26, 2018. On the first day of their technical backstopping, a meeting was held between UPLB BIDANI and VSU BIDANI representatives and VSU officials. Dr. Edgardo Tulin, VSU President, said during the meeting BIDANI will not be able to reach more than three decades in their university if the program were not relevant. Nonetheless, an impact assessment will be conducted to improve its implementation.

Also, present was Prof. Maria Aurora Tabada, VSU BIDANI Supervisor and Director of Institute of Strategic Research and Development Studies (ISRDS).

Meanwhile, on October 26, VSU BIDANI held an orientation training on the upgraded Barangay Management Information System software. Representatives and BMIS focal persons from the municipalities of Baybay, Hilongos, Inopacan, and Macrohon, and Ormoc City attended the said training. Concerns in the implementation of BMIS, software updating, and data validation were discussed. Merging the BMIS software and the Barangay Nutrition Scholars Operation Timbang (BNS OPT) Tool was also discussed and demonstrated.

VSU is one of the mother state universities that established the BIDANI Network Program in 1985, when it was still the Visayas State College of Agriculture (VSCA).
