Municipal Nutrition Action Officers (MNAOs) from seven towns in Laguna participated in the Training on the Participative Nutrition Enhancement Approach (PNEA) held last October 29, 2019 at the Training Room, College of Human Ecology Research and Extension Center (CHE).
MNAOs from the municipalities of Los Baños, Calauan, Rizal, Nagcarlan, Majayjay, Magdalena, and Pangil attended the day-long training, which focused on putting into practice nutrition program management (NPM) at the barangay level, and packaging nutrition promotion activities, and nutrition interventions.
Ms. Pamela Gonzales, a university research associate and the coordinator for BIDANI’s network of state universities and colleges (SUCs), discussed the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022, while Ms. Belinda Lalap, university extension associate and PNEA coordinator, discussed the Participative Nutrition Enhancement Approach.
Mr. Arnold Abuyog and Ms. Ana Castañeda, university research associates and coordinators for the Barangay Integrated Development Approach (BIDA), discussed the aspects of nutrition in development planning, particularly about the Barangay Nutrition Committee (BNC), and the integration of the Barangay Nutrition Action Plan (BNAP) into the various local development plans, such as the Barangay Integrated Development Plan (BIDP) and Municipal Nutrition Action Plan (MNAP), among others.
Ms. Ma. Charina Maneja, university research associate and coordinator for the Barangay Management Information System (BMIS), discussed the four steps in preparing the BNAP, particularly data collection, data processing, situational analysis, and action planning.
Ms. Lalap also discussed the implementation, monitoring, and assessment of nutrition programs, plans, and activities (PPAs), and the package of nutrition promotion activities and nutrition interventions.
The training for MNAO is part of BIDANI’s efforts for capacity building for various nutrition instrumentalities in the local government level.
