As part of its knowledge generation and sharing, the BIDANI Network Program presented two posters in the Asian Congress of Nutrition 2019 held last August 4-7, 2019 in Bali, Indonesia.
Ms. Charina Maneja, University Research Associate and Barangay Management Information System (BMIS) Coordinator, and Ms. Belinda Lalap, University Extension Associate and Participative Nutrition Enhancement Approach (PNEA) Coordinator, presented their posters titled Determinants in the Acceptance of Nutrition Management Information System among Barangay Nutrition Scholars in Selected Municipalities of Laguna, Philippines and Adoption of Kalinga Supplementary Mix as Nutrition Intervention Program: The Case of BIDANI Areas in Nagcarlan, Laguna, Philippines.
Ms. Maneja’s poster discussed BIDANI’s move to merge the existing Operation Timbang (OPT) Tool of the National Nutrition Council (NNC), which is being used by BNS to “generate the fast, reliable, and accurate nutritional status of 0-59 month-old children”, to BIDANI’s BMIS. The study found that age, educational level, and computer literacy have a positive influence in the use of the merged BMIS-OPT information system.
Ms. Lalap’s poster, meanwhile, documented the experience of the municipality of Nagcarlan, Laguna, on the production and utilization of KALINGA supplementary mix. “Shared responsibility of the government, communities, families, and individuals, as well as the roles of the extension worker/public service agent … is highly essential in the adoption, sustainability, and impact” of the KALINGA nutrition intervention, the study found.
Abstracts of the two presentations were included and published in a supplemental issue of Annals of Nutrition and Metabolism.
