PNEA BatStateU Webinar

Ms. Belinda Lalap, the Coordinator for Participative Nutrition Enhancement Approach (PNEA) of the UPLB BIDANI Network Program served as the resource person in a webinar entitled “Seguridad Sa Pagkain, Paano Titiyakin: A Webinar on Ways in Ensuring Food Security at Home” held last 09 September 2020.

The activity was organized by the Extension Services Office of the Batangas State University under its program Sulong Extension: Embracing the New Normal in Developing Communities. BATSTATEU is one of the members of the BIDANI Network Program, a longtime partner of UPLB BIDANI in promoting the nutrition-in-development program and strategy.

Ms. Lalap discussed the relationship among food, health, and nutrition. She emphasized that in this difficult time of pandemic, it is imperative that we give priority to our health. Thus, according to Ms. Lalap, people should be food and nutrition secured since eating nutritious food is a person’s first line of defense to fight illnesses.

She also discussed during the seminar that if our immunity is high, we can prevent the occurrence of malnutrition which affects all people regardless of age, gender and status. Engaging in food production activities like backyard gardening, hydroponic vegetable growing, and preparing delicious, nutritious, safe but low-cost food like the KALINGA supplementary mix ensure food security at home.

Delivered via Zoom with simulcast feed via Facebook Live, the event signaled the start of a series of webinars by the Extension Services Office, Professor Armando V. Mendoza, Jr, the Director of the said Office said.
